1 Graduate Credit available from St. Mary's University or the U of MN for an
additional fee

This workshop will help participants to understand diversity issues by exploring the concepts of sameness and differences. Participants will have the opportunity to experience issues of differences in ability, culture, socio-economic, academic, etc. that will provide insights to true understanding of equity and a sense of belonging. It will become apparent that we all experience being in a minority at different times in our lives and this knowledge helps us to foster understanding for others.

Diversity exists in all spheres of our environment, and is a consistent motivator for conflict. Differences exist not only in race, religion, sex, age, mental and physical ability, but also in beliefs, values and information base.

This workshop will allow the participants to experience the consequences of conflict resulting from diversity, as well as the potential that lies in inclusion, by tapping that same diversity for its perceptions, information and knowledge. The individuals learn how to acknowledge diversity, the impacts it has and to move those diverse viewpoints to a common solution, one that creates understanding and tolerance of others.
